Sedation, Analgesia and Paralysis

  • Facilitates aspects of care (e.g., establishing and maintaining vascular access and invasive monitoring, positive pressure ventilation, transport, diagnostic imaging, etc.)
  • List
  • A secure airway, adequate ventilation, & hemodynamic stability are prerequisites for IV sedation of any kind
  • Midazolam (0.05-0.1 mg/kg prn) and fentanyl (1-2 mcg/kg prn) are short-acting drugs that can be used for sedation and analgesia
