Sedation: Preparation
Consider using a standardized pre-sedation checklist
Self-inflating bag mask connected to full oxygen supply and available; apply supplemental O2 via NC or face mask if patient tolerates
Suction connected and turned on to full vacuum
Monitors: ECG, BP, and SpO2; EtCO2. Reference normal vital signs for patient’s age group.
Age/ size appropriate advanced airway equipment available
Establish appropriate vascular access if indicated
Sedation medications drawn up and labelled in appropriately sized syringes; PALS emergency and reversal medications available
