On completing this module, the provider should be able to:

  • Understand the basic pathophysiology of hypovolemic shock
  • Assess a pediatric trauma victim for signs of circulatory shock
  • Know the conditions that may cause rapid cardiopulmonary deterioration in pediatric trauma patients
  • Understand the choice of sites for intravascular or intaosseous access
  • Monitor the patient for adequacy of intravascular resuscitation
