Initial assessment of pediatric trauma victims includes:
- Airway: Promptly establish a patent airway
- Breathing: Ensure effective ventilation and oxygenation, while immobilizing the cervical spine
- Circulation: Establish effective circulation, vascular access and control obvious external hemorrhage
- Disability: Evaluate neurologic response, and maintain spinal immobilization
- Exposure and Environment: Prevent hypothermia
- Ensure appropriate monitoring and adequate analgesia
