Progression of Shock

Early Signs (Compensated)

  • Increased heart rate
  • Poor systemic perfusion

Late Signs (Decompensated)

  • Weak central pulses
  • Altered mental status
  • Hypotension

Decompensated shock is characterized by hypotension. Compensatory mechanisms fail to maintain adequate cardiac output and blood pressure
