- In-line neck stabilization for endotracheal intubation
- Slight head elevation (30 degrees) on spinal board if not hypotensive, to prevent venous congestion in the head
- Neck in neutral position
- Do not occlude venous drainage
- check fit of hard cervical collar
- avoid Trendelenberg (head down) position
- For insertion of central lines, femoral access may be preferable to internal jugular access in order to avoid potential damage to carotid artery
