- Body temperatures should be maintained below 37.5o C (higher temperatures are associated with increased cerebral metabolic rate and poor outcome)
- Hyperthermia should be treated with:
- Acetaminophen, 15-20 mg/kg PO or PR q 4-6 hours prn
- Body exposure to ambient air
- Direct cooling using cooling blanket or ice packs
- Mild hypothermia (33-35o C) for patients with measured elevated ICP (>20 mm Hg) may be considered
