Characteristic clinical findings include:
- Unexplained closed head injury: Usually subdural +/- intraparenchymal hemorrhage
- Bilateral retinal hemorrhages
- Occult fractures
- Evidence for old & new injuries
- Delay in medical presentation
- Absent or inconsistent history
