Use of Paralytic Agents

  • Succinylcholine or rocuronium can be used to facilitate rapid sequence endotracheal intubation
  • Paralysis with vecuronium, rocuronium, or cisatracurium can be used to prevent coughing in intubated patients (coughing significantly increases ICP). Such paralytic drugs should be used ONLY in adequately sedated children
